This one will be a quickie. Promise.

  • Remember seafood Brian from Top Chef? He was easy on the eyes and constantly reminded everyone that fish was his thing? His wife had twins! Bigger news? He named the girl twin Sailor. Classy or Trashy? You can make the call on that one.

The one day late edition. I’m in Florida. The weather is nice. Time flies by. I have 969 unread articles in my Google Reader and I only missed one day.  Needless to say, this will probably be the shortest, untimeliest, HDU. My apologies.

  • Guess who won Top Chef? Stupid, stupid, Casey! I blame you for this.
  • The Simpsons are going to be on for at least two more seasons bringing the grand total to 22. They’ll be 7 episodes shy of 500. Longevity rocks!
  • Kathy Griffin is getting $2 Million to write a book. Will you read it? I love KG but I’m not sure if the humor will translate.
  • Michael Cera finally manned up and agreed to be in the Arrested Development movie. I slept well for the first time in a long time last night.
  • Finding the remote really is awesome. The only thing better? Finding your cellphone in the couch.
  • Old people…they’re at it again. This time a 70-year-old man shot his TV after he couldn’t get his converter box to work. This will be the subject of the next Dish-TV commercial.
  • You can watch free CBS & Showtime shows on your iPhone now…as if you didn’t have enough awesome things to do with it already.
  • My favorite non-TV related link of the week: The Giant Scrabble Board. Add this to my Christmas list…or personal life goals.

It was Oscar night. Fun show huh? I followed it on Twitter with all my Tweeps. Quite a community out there.

Anyway, here are this week’s winners in my book. Suck it academy!

Amazing Race 14: I love these people. Mel & Mike White are so adorable and having the time of their lives. Margie and Luke are generous and enthusiastic. Everyone is compelling (except that pesky dating couple). And did I mention my sincere love for Steve and Linda the couple from Virgina? I am a little concerned about Linda constantly asking Steve whether or not he’s mad at her but when she’s not concerned about his feelings/her well-being , they’re a pretty cute couple.

Spoiler Alert: If she’d only waited and paraglided with Mel! I’m sad to see Steve and Linda depart tonight.

Carla on Top Chef: She has giant eyes, she makes good food and she’s the only person who can beat Stefan for the title. I sincerely hope she does. That guy needs to be taken down a peg.

Breaking Bad Minisodes: I love this show with a fiery passion only reserved for AMC original programming. These little clips are getting me read for the show’s return on March 8.

I’m writing this and watching LOST at the same time. Gosh I wish I knew more about physics!

  • Top Chef is getting a spin-off! It’s called Top Chef Masters and it’s going to star master chefs I guess. I don’t quite get it just yet, but I’ll probably end up watching it.
  • Dark Knight got nominated for a Kid’s Choice Award. Not exactly the film’s target audience. I suppose it was better than Hotel For Dogs.
  • This Inglourius Basterds clip is making its way around the internet. It involves Brad Pitt, Quentin Tarantino and Nazi killing. That’s all you need to know. BJ Novak is in it too. Hopefully he’ll break the chain of bad luck Office stars have had with films.
  • My Favorite Non-TV Related Links of the Week: The latest addition to my Google Reader, This is why you’re fat. It’s essentially food porn. Also, I’ve become addicted to KenKen puzzles this week. Seriously, do one online, you’ll be addicted too.

I’m in DC for the Inauguration! Here are the awesome TV related sightings I’ve had so far:

  • Staying at a friend’s house. His roomate saw Kevin Nealon at Lucky Bar. No details on Weeds.
  • Lots of camera crews around. Walked past the MSNBC mobile studio. Waved excessively.
  • Went to the  *finally finished* American History Museum after a 10-year wait. (Long story) Saw Kermit the Frog, the Puffy Shirt, Steven Colbert’s portrait, an exhibit about television and the Vietnam war,  and a striking Abe Lincoln impersonator
  • Remember Spike from last season of Top Chef? He runs a super burger joint right by Capitol Hill. Had a delicious burger there and saw Spike cooking up burgers on the line.

Back at home for Inauguration? You can watch all the action on HBO, online at Hulu or just pick your favorite news source.

I may not be back in the blogging swing of things until next week but I’ll try to keep updating the Twitter.

I Need My TV

tvcrack

So as previously mentioned, this week has been wackadoodle. Between snowstorms and other freak events, my real life is seeping into my blog life. Double lame. I’ve been so caught up in the busy-ness of the last few days  that I haven’t been able to watch as much TV as I usually do. It sucks. Part of me feels a bit lost and distracted.

Also, I’ve had this song in my head since Sunday…on repeat.

It’s probably not a coincidence.

Thanks heavens I get a welcomed respite tonight. I plan on settling in early, eating pizza and watching Top Chef. Heavenly.

Marry: Bobby Moynihan

Bobby is one of the new fellas on SNL this season. Though he may get lost in the testosterone shuffle over at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, he really stood out on last night’s ep. His Snagglepuss impression was spot on (Heavens to Mergatroid!) but he finally earned his wings after last night’s dancer sketch with Justin Timberlake and Beyonce.

Bop: Jeff Probst

After the Probster won the first ever Reality TV hosting Emmy this fall, I vowed to give Survivor another shot. Not only has this season kept me entertained but Jeff Probst has yet to disappoint. His best work is actually offscreen. He blogs about every episode for Entertainment Weekly and his entries provide key insight in to the game, and his psyche. Turns out Jeff Probst is a pretty funny dude. One of those guys I wish I were friends with.

Kill: The Euro Duo on Top Chef

Did you catch the season premiere of Top Chef on Wednesday? It had some nice twists right off the bat! Getting rid of someone before they even make it to the Top Chef Kitchens?? Ballsy. But my two least favorite chefs are the Euro Duo. We get it, you’re exotic, you’re supposedly amazing, blah, blah, blah. It all getting to be too much. I’m already sick of Stefan’s attitude and that elimination win won’t help matters too much. You know you’re ego’s bad when you’re too big for American reality TV.

Post-Election Day High Edition! Let’s keep it short.

  • Sad news first: Michael Crichton, blockbluster author of books like Jurassic Park, and The Andromeda Strain lost his battle with cancer today at the age of 66. Crichton contributed to television as the creator of ER. He based the series off of his own experience as a medical resident.
  • Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s concession speech on The View this morning wasn’t as sincere as John McCain’s but I applaud her good sportsmanship. Sherri Shepard got a bit emotional but then again…who didn’t?
  • Big Love is starting again in January. It’s been close to 16 months since the show aired thanks to the Writer’s Strike. Did you forget what’s going on? Want to get in on the last solid drama HBO has? Check out this four minute catch-up video.
  • Joe Mande is a hilarious comedian/blogger. He plays a little game every week where he mashes up the first and last lines of Andy Rooney’s old man rant on 60 Minutes. This week’s was especially funny.
  • Bravo is gearing up for another season of Top Chef. Say hello to the fresh meat…the new chefs that is.
  • I can’t stand Nancy Grace, but gosh her babies are cute.

Top Chef Season 2 runner-up Marcel “Giant Head/Bigger Ego” Vigneron was arrested and thrown in the clink on Saturday for a DUI.

Marcel posted the $2,500 bail and even managed to make it to a benefit event on Sunday.

Keep your nose out of the cooking sherry little buddy.

Speaking of shows coming to life, the folks at Top Chef are doing some cooking demonstrations, and sharing some show insights as a part of Top Chef: The Tour. The event stops in 20 cities across the country and admission to the hour-long sessions are free.

Different chefs appear in each stop. Detroit was fortunate enough to get my favorite unstable, Ginger-headed cook, Andrew. Madison will have to settle for a visit from Top Chef winner Stephanie Izard and Season 3’s Dale Levitsky (or as I like to call him, the Dale everyone liked)

Click here for all the details on the tour itself. If you want to see the chefs when they stop in Madison next week, check out the pertinent info here.

I learned about the term “gastrosexuals” a few weeks back. Definition? A hot guy who cooks.

And there was no better place to find (and ogle) these fellas than the Top Chef kitchens. My gastrosexual of choice is Sam Talbot from Top Chef season two. So classy, so laid back, and his food (and sexy hair) made my mouth water.

Then, my heart sank faster than a weak souffle. Sam is engaged. And it gets worse. She designs funky t-shirts. She is a gorgeous Columbian woman. Oh and she models on the side too. And they just met in December 2007.

I’m happy for you Sam. But I hope you’ll always wonder what could’ve been. I know I will.

I’m watching Next Food Network Star and it’s official…I don’t want any of these people to have their own television show.

On the other hand, DesignStar is blowing my socks off. These people are creative, funny, daring and a pleasure to watch. I’m not even that much of a home and garden nut, but that’s just it…they make the stuff compelling. Ever wonder why the “top-rated food show on cable” isn’t even on Food Network? Look no further. If this is their mine of talent, then pickings must be slim.

Sorry old friend, but I think I’m all about your sister channel now..even if the designers are crying all the time.

It’s a risk I’m willing to take.
