I’m happy for Conan. He had the chance of a lifetime, and his own network screwed him over. Fresh off a nationwide tour, and a quick stop at folk hero status, he got a great deal at a new network and things will finally be, “back to normal.”

I will watch his premiere tonight, but that’s probably it. Here’s why:

Call me crazy, but I never thought he was very funny on the Late Night, or the Tonight Show. He talks over the guests, and his schtick just doesn’t work for  me I suppose. But I wish him all the best. And finally, his fans can stop their whining. They took this really personally. Hopefully they stop their talk and follow him to TBS.

Huge Fail TBS!

I’m watching Seinfeld and I see a commercial for TBS’ new comedy Glory Daze. It’s about a group of students at a college in the 1980s.

What do I see one of the characters wearing? A Callahan Auto shirt. Callahan Auto is a fictional brand from the movie Tommy Boy. When did Tommy Boy come out? 1995. That’s one huge anachronism.

I wanted to make sure I wasn’t seeing things, so I watched the Glory Daze promo online and there it was. I screencapped it for posterity.

And here’s the shirt up close:

What a Monday folks! We had one long-held rumor confirmed for us, and one nice little surprise come to light.

  • First, the rumor in question. Yes, we’re being treated to two more seasons ( 13 episodes each) of Friday Night Lights. Bickety-Bam! NBC is continuing their partnership with Direct-TV so the dish will get the eps first and NBC will run them second. I personally don’t care when they air, so long they run as promised. This season has been spectacular and rumor has it the season finale is a beaut.’ Great determination from this show’s rabid fan base. They never gave up hope. Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose!
  • Second, a jolly piece of news today: the syndication rights to The Office have been sold to stations covering 93% of the country. What does this mean for you? Unless you live in Moose Junction (and maybe even there) The Office will be on 5 nights a week in a city near you. What nice news. The show currently pops up in re-runs on TBS but the potential to see it everyday is a nice step-up. Not only will this get the show out to the latecomers who “didn’t understand it” the first time around, it also gives us long-running fans something to smile about. My hope? It replaces the current Two and A Half Men hour currently soaking up time on my Fox affiliate.

It’s Super Bowl Sunday! In case football, pageantry and overrated commercials aren’t your thing, here’s what else is on TV. Mandi Bierly over at PopWatch put together a full list of the marathons and programing specials happening today. I selected a few of your best bets and listed them below.

  • Animal Planet: Puppy Bowl V (running continuously from  3 p.m. to 5 a.m.): I could watch puppies running around a little stadium all day. No seriously, I could.
  • A&E: The Sopranos (noon until 4 a.m.): I wish A&E had gone with Intervention or Dog but this will do.
  • CMT: Trading Spouses (2 p.m to 10 p.m.): I always feel so awful for the kids on these shows. It must be kind of a ner wracking two weeks. Lots of fighting and confusion. Nobody ever seems to mention that.
  • FX: Little Black Book, 2 p.m.; Maid in Manhattan, 4:30 p.m.; 13 Going on 30, 6:30 p.m.; The Devil Wears Prada, 8:30 p.m.
  • Oxygen: America’s Next Top Model (11 a.m. to 11 p.m.): I flipped on Oxygen a few days back and finally saw episodes of this show I hadn’t seen. Can’t wait to catch a marathon from the beginning.
  • SPEED: Pimp My Ride (1 p.m. to 3 a.m.): I always hated the really forced acting at the “planning meeting” at West Coast Customs. Lots of head nodding and using the word “phat.”
  • Style: Clean House (noon to 3 a.m.)
  • TBS: Clueless, 11:30 a.m.; My Best Friend’s Wedding, 1:30 p.m.; Failure to Launch, 3:30 p.m.; What Women Want, 5:30 p.m.; My Big Fat Greek Wedding, 8 p.m
  • TNT: The Closer (noon to 11 p.m.)

TBS totally trumps FX in terms of chick flicks don’t ya think? Again, to see the full list, head over to PopWatch.

Image: Dallas Star Telegram – You may be wondering why I picked that picture. I was in Tampa last year for a bowl game and our hotel was right near Raymond James Stadium. You know what else is right near Raymond James Stadium? Tons and tons of strip clubs. So when I Googled “Super Bowl 43” for a nice photo, this was actually one of the first to come up. It was also a running joke my friends had still have about the establishment right next door to our hotel.

Thanks to Interesting Pile via Remote Island for posting this list of all the sweet TV Marathons happening today, tomorrow and even the day after Christmas.

I’ll be watching Smart Guy on BET. Remember that show?It was about TJ, a child prodigy and his wacky misadventures. Little TJ was played by Tia & Tamera Mowry’s younger brother Taj. Omar Gooding also had a recurring role on the program. What ever happened to him? He may have peaked on Wild & Crazy Kids.

If movies are more your thing, tune in to the annual Christmas Story Marathon on TBS starting tonight at 8/7C. USA is running 24 hours of Elf next week. Apparently the holiday season now extends through New Year’s. Slammin!

I am sitting at my parents’ house watching one of my all time favorites, How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Not that blasphemous Jim Carrey movie, but the old cartoon with the vocal stylings of Boris Karloff. The singing, the beady eyes, the little dog Max loaded down with gifts…all of it signals in my holiday season.

But here’s the rub; It’s November 16.

I consider myself a apart of the “Sooner The Better” camp. When I was younger, the build-up of the holiday season was to get to Christmas. Now, the fun is in the build-up itself. I can take or leave Christmas Day, but if you cut out my 4-6 weeks of carols, specials, cookies and theme parties, I will cut you.

Thanksgiving is historically the beginning of the Christmas season, but commercialism has pushed it up a little earlier. Four weeks wasn’t enough Saturdays for doorbusters, megasales and the like. So they jumped the shark and started the season right after Halloween. Can you blame them?

So with early shopping comes early everything. My local radio station is already on 24/7 Christmas music, and the Saved By The Bell episode where they take-in the homeless girl came on earlier last week. This lead me to more Christmas specials which brought me here…to my parents’ house…watching The Grinch.

What do you think folks? When should these holiday shows start-up? Is Thanksgiving too late to start all the fun or is it absurd to be watching anything Santa prior to the carving of a turkey?

SAG Awards Tonight!

The Screen Actors Guild Awards are tonight! Finally, a chance to watch people in pretty dresses except awards for doing their jobs. It’s like your company’s holiday party with $3,000 gift bags. I love it!

I entered a pool on BuzzSugar to predict tonight’s winners. The SAG Awards are a wild card because the actor’s vote. So while Edie Falco may have only been okay in the last season of the Soprano’s, she may get more votes out of sympathy and cumulative career points.

Here are my picks for tonight’s TV categories. They’re long shots, but if I get them right, I can win a year’s worth of Netflix. (Because I need another excuse to watch TV on DVD.)

Female Actor In A Telefilm or Miniseries
Queen Latifah, Life Support
