Its been awhile since we had a big TV weekend hasn’t it? It’s snowy here so the timing is perfect. A little sledding, a little hot chocolate and then hunkering down for the night with some big TV. Here’s what I’m watching:

Tonight: This one is probably only relevant to the fellow Sconnies who read edubTV but a family from Evansville is featured on tonight’s episode of Supernanny. It shook things up in the tiny little town and I am excited to see how the family and Wisconsin gets represented. We looked pretty awesome on Extreme Makeover Home Edition but then again who doesn’t? And for those of you with a Wisconsin connection (who also kind of hate yourselves), Howie Do It premieres tonight.

Saturday: Neil Patrick Harris is hosting the first SNL after the “winter break.” He can sing, he can dance, he’s hilarious, and he’s easy on the eyes. It’s going to be legen…wait for it…dary. Plus I could really use an NPH fix. I’m going through some serious withdrawl following my HIMYM marathon last week.

Sunday: The Golden Globes! Fancy clothes, drunken celebrities, awards for TV and Film? What a lovely way to spend a Sunday evening. In a GG pool? You can check out my TV picks from a few weeks ago.  Hopefully I do better than I did for my Emmy pool. That was a little embarassing.

Speaking of which, NPH is hosting SNL come January 10. It’s going to be lovely and amazing…and I bet they’ll be singing involved.

Here’s the TV side of the list. Let’s dish.

BEST TELEVISION SERIES – DRAMA
DEXTER (SHOWTIME)
HOUSE (FOX)
IN TREATMENT (HBO)
MAD MEN (AMC)
TRUE BLOOD (HBO)

Thoughts: It’s no secret that I loooove Mad Men. However, Dexter has been pretty amazing this season. Toughie, but I think Mad Men will win again.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TV SERIES – DRAMA
Sally Field (BROTHERS & SISTERS)
Mariska Hargitay (LAW & ORDER: SVU)
January Jones (MAD MEN)
Anna Paquin (TRUE BLOOD)
Kyra Sedgwick (THE CLOSER)

Thoughts: Love these ladies and all of them are contenders. Actually I’m not crazy about Anna Paquin but I think that stems more from my dislike of True Blood. My vote is for January Jones or Sally Field.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TV SERIES – DRAMA
Gabriel Byrne (IN TREATMENT)
Michael C. Hall (DEXTER)
Jon Hamm (MAD MEN)
Hugh Laurie (HOUSE)
Jonathan Rhys Meyers (THE TUDORS)

Thoughts: Michael C. Hall is lovely and amazing but he’s no match for the man and mystery that is Jon Hamm.

BEST TELEVISION SERIES – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
30 ROCK (NBC)
CALIFORNICATION (SHOWTIME)
ENTOURAGE (HBO)
THE OFFICE (NBC)
WEEDS (SHOWTIME)

Thoughts: Did the Hollywood Foreign Press Association see the same season of Entourage as me? It was dreadful, truly dreadful. Let’s hope 30 Rock or The Office can eek it out, though Weeds was pretty fun this season..except for that whole belt sander thing.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TV SERIES – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
Christina Applegate (SAMANTHA WHO?)
America Ferrera (UGLY BETTY)
Tina Fey (30 ROCK)
Debra Messing (THE STARTER WIFE)
Mary-Louise Parker (WEEDS)

Thoughts: Tina Fey took home the little guy last year. I think the only lady in her sights is America Ferrera. UB has been pretty good this year and she’s largely to thank for that.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TV SERIES – COMEDY OR MUSICAL
Alec Baldwin (30 ROCK)
Steve Carell (THE OFFICE)
Kevin Connolly (ENTOURAGE)
David Duchovny (CALIFORNICATION)
Tony Shalhoub (MONK)

Thoughts: Nice to see Kevin Connolly get recognized as one of the last remaining bright spots on Entourage. Will he win? I highly doubt it. Clear the stage for Alec Baldwin or David Duchovny.

BEST MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TV
A RAISIN IN THE SUN (ABC)
BERNARD AND DORIS (HBO)
CRANFORD (PBS)
JOHN ADAMS (HBO)
RECOUNT (HBO)

Thoughts: John Adams. ‘Nuff said.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TV
Judi Dench (CRANFORD)
Catherine Keener (AN AMERICAN CRIME)
Laura Linney (JOHN ADAMS)
Shirley MaClaine (COCO CHANEL)
Susan Sarandon (BERNARD AND DORIS)

Thoughts: Judi Dench is the only one giving Laura Linney some competition. This could be a nice competition.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TV
Ralph Fiennes (BERNARD AND DORIS)
Paul Giamatti (JOHN ADAMS)
Kevin Spacey (RECOUNT)
Kiefer Sutherland (24: REDEMPTION)
Tom Wilkinson (RECOUNT)

Thoughts: Love that Kiefer got a nomination for 24: Redemption. Love it! I secretly want him to win, but Paul Giamatti was brilliant and tough to top.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TV
Eileen Atkins (CRANFORD)
Laura Dern (RECOUNT)
Melissa George (IN TREATMENT)
Rachel Griffiths (BROTHERS & SISTERS)
Dianne Wiest (IN TREATMENT)

Thoughts: Tough category since it encompasses everything. Laura Dern may eek this one out.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TV
Neil Patrick Harris (HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER)
Denis Leary (RECOUNT)
Jeremy Piven (ENTOURAGE)
Blair Underwood (IN TREATMENT)
Tom Wilkinson (JOHN ADAMS)

Thoughts: I’m rooting really hard for Neil Patrick Harris but odds are Piven or Tom Wilkinson will come out on top.

Who are you liking for the awards folks? Anyone missing? Think the HFPA totally missed the boat? Let ‘er rip.

This is my Super Bowl. I’ve booked and scheduled every minute of my day today to ensure I can successfully be in front of my television and ready to watch in awe without feeling guilty about homework, job applications, etc. I’ve studied, I’ve read thousands of blogs entries and watched even more hours of TV in preparation for this night.
