January is basically the new September. Not only do you have to welcome brand new shows into your previously established and well-honed TV line-up (Damn you Trust Me!) but you have to find spots for old favorites that are just getting started like 24 and Lost. Without some organizational wizardry it can get pretty ridiculous. Thank heavens The TV Addict has come to my rescue once again and put together a calendar of the premieres and returning shows so you won’t miss anything.

You can download a copy for yourself right here!

And take a look at January 18th. My brain might explode from premium cable awesomeness.

Thanks to Interesting Pile via Remote Island for posting this list of all the sweet TV Marathons happening today, tomorrow and even the day after Christmas.

I’ll be watching Smart Guy on BET. Remember that show?It was about TJ, a child prodigy and his wacky misadventures. Little TJ was played by Tia & Tamera Mowry’s younger brother Taj. Omar Gooding also had a recurring role on the program. What ever happened to him? He may have peaked on Wild & Crazy Kids.

If movies are more your thing, tune in to the annual Christmas Story Marathon on TBS starting tonight at 8/7C. USA is running 24 hours of Elf next week. Apparently the holiday season now extends through New Year’s. Slammin!

Post-Election Day High Edition! Let’s keep it short.

  • Sad news first: Michael Crichton, blockbluster author of books like Jurassic Park, and The Andromeda Strain lost his battle with cancer today at the age of 66. Crichton contributed to television as the creator of ER. He based the series off of his own experience as a medical resident.
  • Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s concession speech on The View this morning wasn’t as sincere as John McCain’s but I applaud her good sportsmanship. Sherri Shepard got a bit emotional but then again…who didn’t?
  • Big Love is starting again in January. It’s been close to 16 months since the show aired thanks to the Writer’s Strike. Did you forget what’s going on? Want to get in on the last solid drama HBO has? Check out this four minute catch-up video.
  • Joe Mande is a hilarious comedian/blogger. He plays a little game every week where he mashes up the first and last lines of Andy Rooney’s old man rant on 60 Minutes. This week’s was especially funny.
  • Bravo is gearing up for another season of Top Chef. Say hello to the fresh meat…the new chefs that is.
  • I can’t stand Nancy Grace, but gosh her babies are cute.

I freelance over at CollegeCandy, a blog by and for the college aged ladies. Anyway, I spent my Monday nights this summer watching The Bachelorette. I suffered through hours of footage every week to write updates and re-caps for the CC faithful.

So needless to say I was a little more invested in this season than the average viewer. When I heard that DeAnna broke it off with snowboarder Jesse, I was shocked but then again…not really. It never really made sense as to why she chose him in the first place. They had nothing in common, they wanted different things, they lived halfway across the country from one another and didn’t really seem deadset on moving. It was the most ridiculous match in reality dating history. If anything, I’m a little pissed I wasted some perfectly beautiful summer nights.

You can watch Jesse’s tearful announcement below:

Marry: The People Who Finally Decided To Watch 30 Rock

The show’s season premiere on Thursday boasted a record 8.53 Million viewers. Welcome to the fold new fans. I thought the episode was only so-so, but this news gets me going again.

Bop: Tivo & Netflix

The two are teaming up to bring Tivo/Netflix subscribers 12,000 titles right to that little set-top box. There is nothing sexier than being able to watch  whenever I damn well want.

Kill: Tyra Banks

Hey single ladies and gents! Tyra wants you to blog about what it’s like to be single in the city. Write hilarious anecdotes about your dating exploits, share your darkest secrets for Tyra public to see. But hey, she won’t be able to pay you and she’ll probably use your free, witty content for fodder on her show. JSYK.

Another Wednesday, another batch of updates.

  • Eric Mabius’ wife looks like she’s about to explode…with babies.
  • As far as crappy rap parodies with low-production values go, this one is pretty boss.
  • Speaking of HBO, did you see Entourage on Sunday? It turns out Turtle (Jerry Ferrera) and Jamie Lynn Sigler are an item in real-life. Adorbs!
  • Lauren Graham, formerly of Gilmore Girls fame is making a jump to the great white way. Graham will make her Broadway debut in the highly anticipated revival of Guys and Dolls. Didn’t know she could sing? This YouTube believer never had any doubt.
  • Christmas is coming. Wanna get me a gift? Make me a Muppet damnit!
  • Get your cringe-on: Larry David’s coming back for another season of Curb Your Enthusiasm
  • My favorite non-TV related link of the week: Brokers With Hands On Their Faces Who knew the economy was so funny?
  • And if you don’t have cable, you probably had a hard time finding something to watch at the 8/7C hour. Barack took over the airwaves (except ABC, who knew they’d fight for Pushing Daisies so hard?) and delivered his message straight to the American people for a good half hour. If you missed it on the air, you can watch it below. I teared up at the end. Don’t forget to vote people.

It’s the 500th post folks! Who knew this humble blog would make it this far? We’re celebrating this milestone with a website make-over, and a few new features to take us into the next era of so-so, witty TV blogging.

So here’s what you have to look forward to on the new edubTV:

  • Hump Day Update will now be an official weekly feature. Where else can I share the most ridiculous TV links I find throughout the week?
  • Contests: My brother wants to start giving stuff away. Most blogs that do this get their prizes for free. I on the otherhand will be going nuts for the edubTV public on the day after Thanksgiving. I hope you guys like Bargain DVDs!
  • The Podcast: This idea got tossed around earlier in the year, but I’m hoping to finally get it off the ground soon. Frankly, I hate the sound of my voice on the answering machine, so it may be a vodcast.
  • More Site Features: WordPress has the capability to do some pretty amazing stuff so we’re hoping to use those widgets and gizmos to make edubTV a more interactive site.
  • Whatever The Heck You People Want: Got a suggestion or something you want to see? Let us know. We’re pretty open to suggestions. It’s the fun and our five readers that got us this far.

So I can’t wait to get started on the next phase of this site. It’s been a very fun project for me and I’m looking forward to the future.

Your job? Spread the good word. No need to be major marketers here. I’m not asking you to join a street team…yet.¬† Just pass the word along to friends, roommates, significant others, strangers with good taste, etc. Your help is much appreciated.

Onward and upward friends and fans! See you at the 1000th post!

When you add it all up I follow 6 hours of prime time television on the average Thursday night. Because of scheduling and general sleepiness, watching all of these shows would be nearly impossible without the aid of my DVR and the internet. That got me to thinking; I bet a ridiculous amount of people aren’t even using their TVs anymore.

Think about the number of websites you can go to right now to see episodes of television that were brand new less than 24 hours ago. Stuck? Luckily the New York Post TV blog compiled a list.

OVGuide.com
Hulu.com
Megavideo.com
Joost.com
Fancast.com
Primetimerewind.tv
Beelinetv.com
Quicksilverscreen.com
Surfthechannel.com

They also went one step further and provided a rundown for every show currently streaming new episodes online and where you can find them. Let me tell you, it’s a doozy.

Ridiculous, or just the first signs that that flat screen of yours will soon be your coffee table?

I liken the transition to young people getting rid of landlines. Why keep the big set around when you can take your laptop anywhere, see all the shows you want for the price of your wireless connection, and basically never pay for a cable bill again? It kind of makes you wonder doesn’t it? I suppose most people are keeping their TVs around for sports games and other shows (mostly from premium channels) that they just “can’t get anywhere else.”

But I pose this question to all of you: If sports and the occasional episode of Dexter aren’t holding you back, what’s keeping you from getting rid of your TV?

I’ll answer first I guess. I usually watch TV by myself, so only having a laptop wouldn’t get in the way of my big non-existent TV watching parties. I already get all of my news online or from the newspaper and 100% of the shows I watch are free on the internet or available on iTunes. So what’s stopping me? New Year’s Eve. I haven’t been home for New Year’s Eve in a few years, but I can’t imagine not having a TV to watch that ball drop…even if Dick Clark’s not there. But even after sitting on this for about a half hour, that’s the only reason I could think of.

What about you folks?

Hey gang! Brother bear got to blog last night which means I am full of things I missed from yesterday. We missed the hump day update, but let’s just call it that for old times sake. This will be the last one for edubTV 1.0. Single tear.

  • Former Queer as Folk star and current Desperate Housewives man-candy Gale Harold is in critical condition after a motorcycle accident a few days ago. Reports show he is steadily improving but he is far from out of the woods. Harold’s character has a large role in an upcoming episode involving a nightclub fire. The ep is being shot this week and EP Marc Cherry said it will need to be changed a bit. Hopefully he’ll have a speedy recovery.
  • Have you taken the NY Post Television Aptitude tests? I scored perfect on the comedy edition and did just-ok on the drama. Feel free to leave your score in the comments.
  • Finally those Gossip Girl kids get something right. This faux-PSA about the election starring Blake Lively and Penn Badgely is right on the money. It’s executed much better than that whole “Don’t Vote” mumbo-jumbo.
  • Diablo Cody, Steven Spielberg, Toni Collette and John Corbett teamed up to make a TV show. The result? What looks like another hit for Showtime. The first look is finally available online. And sidenote, boy am I glad John Corbett is back on TV. He is one charming fella.

  • Tina Fey threatened to move to outer space if John McCain and Sarah Palin win this election
  • Speaking of which, the rest of the TV public (lead by the New York Times no less) is finally as outraged as I am that 30 Rock isn’t starting for another two and a half weeks.
  • This Friday, October 17, there will be an entire Jeopardy category devoted to Mad Men. You can practice your skills online right now with an online edition of Mad Men Jeopardy right now though.
  • Best new feature ever: An addictionary for all things The Office on NBC.com. Fans can add their own entries which means some are much funnier than others. I’m glad someone else remembered this.
  • Gawker ran a wonderful piece today by a guy who tried out for America’s Got Talent. Oh the shit they put you through.

It’s Friday and boy am I ready for the weekend. Nothing kicks off two days of bliss better than a hot new dance groove inspired by Jerell, my new favorite Project Runway personality. He gave Kenley the what-for by saying he wanted Korto and Leanna with him “…at da teyents.” It was a funny little accent, trust me you had to see it…and you can...right here.

So the folks at BestWeekEver.tv took the time take that sweet little phrase and turn it into the new autumn jam. There’s even a dance. I’m tickled pink.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia costars Kaitlin Olson (Dee) and Rob McElhenney (Mac) tied the knot last Saturday in California.

(File this under confessions of a bad TV blogger: I didn’t even know they were dating.)

I bet the wedding was flippin’ raucous.

Kudos to the happy couple!
